Purse Drive Helps Abuse Victims

Omaha’s National Association of Railway Business Women (NARBW) Chapter recently donated 81 gently used purses to the Phoenix House, a shelter for abuse victims, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

“Although a purse may seem like a small item, it can make a huge difference to a woman who walks away from an abusive relationship with only the clothes on her back,” said Jay Nelsen, team leader-NCSC Western Region.

NARBW filled each handbag with a wallet, makeup kit, hand sanitizer, tissues and more.

In addition to providing shelter to abuse victims, the Phoenix House also runs a 24-hour crisis hotline, and provides legal advocacy, education and support to individuals in violent relationships.
